
Get a library card
If you live in the Village of Hinckley or Squaw Grove Township you are eligible for a free library card as part of your tax-supported library service. Just bring in a picture ID that includes your current address. A parent must sign the application card for children aged 5-17.

If you live in Pierce or Big Rock Township you may purchase a library card or check your eligibility for different options below. The annual fee is based on your property taxes so please bring a copy of your tax bill along with your picture ID.
The Cards for Kids Act establishes free non-resident library cards for students who live in an area that is not served by a public library AND who are eligible for the National School Lunch Program (free and reduced lunch). This applies to students in Big Rock Township.

Current H-BR and homeschool* students in grades Pre-K through 12 are eligible (ages 5+).

A parent or guardian must apply for the student’s card in person at the Hinckley Public Library District with a letter of verification from the school district.

Letters can be obtained from the school secretary.

Adults are not eligible for free cards, and may not use them without the student’s presence.

The parent or guardian filling out the registration will be responsible for all overdue fines and fees for lost or damaged materials checked out on the student card.

Student cards will expire in one year. A new letter of eligibility will be required for renewal.

Student cards may be used at other Illinois libraries and may check out all material types.
*Homeschooling families will be asked to self-verify eligibility based on the USDA's income guidelines.
